November Chamber Champion of the Month: Westmoreland County Airport Authority
The Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce proudly presents this month’s Chamber Champion award and Title Belt to the Westmoreland County Airport Authority.
Westmoreland County Airport Authority operates Arnold Palmer Regional Airport (LBE) in Latrobe. Led by Executive Director Gabe Monzo, the airport provides easy access to air travel for Westmoreland County residents and beyond, while not having to experience the traffic involved traveling through Pittsburgh.
Arnold Palmer Regional Airport’s roots began in 1924 while being originally known as Longview Flying Field. It became J.D. Hill Airport in 1928, Latrobe Airport in 1935 and Westmoreland County Airport in 1978. Complimenting a rich history rooted in some of the earliest pioneers of aviation, the name was changed to Arnold Palmer Regional in 1999 to honor the Youngstown native golf legend who grew up less than a mile from the runway where he watched the world’s first official airmail pickup in 1939 and later learned to fly himself.
The airport offers many great benefits to our local communities in and around Westmoreland County. The fantastic Westmoreland International Airshow takes place at Arnold Palmer Regional each year which brings tourism to Westmoreland County. The Westmoreland County Airport Authority is currently undergoing a terminal expansion project to double its size, add new gates, and is designed to improve passenger flow throughout the terminal to increase customer experience. Did we also mention they offer FREE PARKING?!
Thank you to Gabe and the entire staff at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport and the Westmoreland County Airport Authority for all of the hard work you do to continue to provide unique opportunities for our community. It is truly a pleasure to recognize you as this month’s Chamber Champions!
